The Cincinnati Educational Justice Coalition (CEJC) is a coalition of parents, community, faith and labor organizations, civic organizations, and concerned citizens who are committed to ensuring every child has access to a public school system that provides an equitable and quality education in a positive learning environment. We work toward this goal by supporting the Community Learning Center model in every Cincinnati public school, as it is a proven path to achieve the full promise of an equitable and high quality education for ALL children.
Access to good public schools is a civil and human right. We are committed to protecting public education, for we know it is critical to ensuring every child the opportunity to success. Our values include: √ Stop the privatization of public education √ Fair funding for all public schools √ More teaching, less testing √ Every school is a sustainable Community Learning Center √ A culture of collaboration and democracy at all schools While education alone cannot eradicate poverty, schools can help to coordinate the supports and services their students and families need to thrive. This is why we support the district’s Community Learning Center model as the anecdote to many of the problems our schools and children face. The Community Learning Center model is the path to achieve the full promise of equitable and high quality education for ALL children. Our voices matter. Those closest to the education process—teachers, administrators, school staff, students and their parents and community members—must have a voice in education policy and practice. |

Our Campaign to Freeze and Expose TIFs
|
We have come together around a common commitment to public education. We believe that the only way to give every child the opportunity to pursue a rich and productive life, both individually and as a member of society, is through a system of publicly funded, equitable and democratically controlled public schools. The principles below reflect our joint efforts to define our vision for public education and to distinguish our vision from that of the current corporate agenda. Now, more than ever, access to good public schools is a critical civil and human right. We are committed to working together to reclaim the promise of public education as our nation’s gateway to democracy and racial and economic justice. Read more

After years of research and work on the issue of tax abatements and their role in the health of the city and our public schools, we are taking on the secretive program called Tax Increment Funding (TIFs). We believe these programs are diverting needed public finds AWAY from essential public services and diverting TO wealthy and connected private developers. The result is our communities and are public school children have been massively short changed!
